Papel Picados

Since it is almost time for La dia de independencia de Mexico... my Spanish class learned how to make Papel Picados- which are Mexcian decorations used for festivals and holidays.  These are normally made out of tissue paper, using various colros to create a "fiesta" (party) look.

To make these you need scissors, tissue paper (or colored paper), string (to hang)

Step 1: Fold the paper in half

Step 2: Now continue by folding in half the other way (2 folds)

Step 3: (above) The the folded forner and fold to make a triangle
Step 4: (above) Cut off the excess paper (What is not included in the triange).
Step 5: Start designing by cutting out parts of your rectangle

Step 6: When you are finished, open your triange to reveal your artwork!
Make different papel picados with different designs and colros and hang them to create a festive, Mexican party!
